It is not valuable merely for its age, nor for the elegance of its execution, but because it records the first complete articulation of what would later be understood as <strong data-start=\"289\" data-end=\"303\">Iwamoto ki<\/strong>: a structural doctrine governing continuity, capability and care beyond the constraints of the traditional <em data-start=\"411\" data-end=\"415\">ie<\/em>.<\/p><p data-start=\"418\" data-end=\"652\">The document was prepared in the winter of 1876, following the successful transition of <em data-start=\"506\" data-end=\"510\">ie<\/em>-based wealth and responsibility into forms compatible with the Meiji state, particularly in the aftermath of the Land Tax Reform Act of 1873.<\/p><p data-start=\"654\" data-end=\"815\">It reflects a moment of consolidation rather than crisis. The tone of the diagram is measured and declarative. Nothing in it suggests speculation or uncertainty.<\/p><p data-start=\"817\" data-end=\"1008\">The artistic quality of the drawing and the precision of the calligraphy demonstrate Iwamoto Jir\u014d&#8217;s considerable technical skill. However, the drawing should not be interpreted as decorative.<\/p><p data-start=\"1010\" data-end=\"1171\">Each element serves an explanatory function. There is no embellishment.
