great-grandson who works as an engineer, there is no hierarchy of worth.<\/p><p data-start=\"769\" data-end=\"804\">There is only continuity of effort.<\/p><p data-start=\"806\" data-end=\"843\">Each worked with what was before him.<\/p><p data-start=\"845\" data-end=\"893\">Each was made capable by those who came earlier.<\/p><p data-start=\"895\" data-end=\"921\">Education is not a reward.<\/p><p data-start=\"923\" data-end=\"955\">It is a responsibility advanced.<\/p><p data-start=\"957\" data-end=\"1058\">If a child of the House studies, it is not to rise above others, but to return with greater capacity.<\/p><p data-start=\"1060\" data-end=\"1091\">The scholarship is not charity.<\/p><p data-start=\"1093\" data-end=\"1224\">It is an investment made by people in people, to be repaid not in money, but in steadiness, judgment and care for those who follow.<\/p><p data-start=\"1226\" data-end=\"1310\">We must never allow the language of employment to replace the language of belonging.<\/p><p data-start=\"1312\" data-end=\"1352\">Workers are retained by fear or comfort.<\/p><p data-start=\"1354\" data-end=\"1406\">People remain because they are needed and protected.<\/p><p data-start=\"1408\" data-end=\"1585\">When we are tempted to measure success by expansion, we should instead count how many children of the House are confident enough to plan their lives without fear of abandonment.<\/p><p data-start=\"1587\" data-end=\"1673\">The <em data-start=\"1591\" data-end=\"1595\">ki<\/em> is strong only while people believe they are safer within it than outside it.<\/p><p data-start=\"1675\" data-end=\"1698\">That belief is fragile.<\/p><p data-start=\"1700\" data-end=\"1758\">It must be renewed every day, not by words, but by action.<\/p><p data-start=\"1760\" data-end=\"1818\">If this is forgotten, the Tree will still grow for a time.<\/p><p data-start=\"1820\" data-end=\"1848\">But it will already be data-end=\"259\">This memorandum is the clearest surviving statement of what <strong data-start=\"194\" data-end=\"210\">Iwamoto Jir\u014d<\/strong> regarded as the primary continuity of the House.<\/p><p data-start=\"261\" data-end=\"519\">Across the archival record, no form of wealth\u2014light or heavy\u2014is treated with greater care or consistency than <strong data-start=\"371\" data-end=\"389\">Iwamoto people<\/strong>. Capital, structure and capability appear repeatedly as instruments; people alone are treated as the purpose they exist to serve.<\/p><p data-start=\"521\" data-end=\"815\">The document is notable for what it does not attempt. It neither defines hierarchy, prescribes obligation nor articulates doctrine. Instead, it records a conviction that all other constructs of the <em data-start=\"719\" data-end=\"723\">ki<\/em> exist only to guarantee the endurance, security and formation of people across generations.<\/p><p data-start=\"817\" data-end=\"1049\">In this respect, the memorandum marks the point at which the <em data-start=\"878\" data-end=\"882\">ie<\/em> is extended rather than replaced. The protective and formative strengths of the <em data-start=\"963\" data-end=\"967\">ie<\/em> are preserved, while its fundamental limitation\u2014dependence upon blood\u2014is removed.<\/p><p data-start=\"1051\" data-end=\"1195\">The <em data-start=\"1055\" data-end=\"1059\">ki<\/em> makes it possible for multiple families to be held within a single continuity, something the <em data-start=\"1153\" data-end=\"1157\">ie<\/em> could never achieve without fracture.<\/p><p data-start=\"1197\" data-end=\"1434\">Later organisational practice confirms this priority. Where external analysis identifies unusually high rates of employee retention, internal materials consistently reject the language of employment. People are not retained; they remain.<\/p><p data-start=\"1436\" data-end=\"1485\">This distinction appears here for the first time.<\/p><p data-start=\"1487\" data-end=\"1686\">The document was preserved not as doctrine, but as orientation. It was regarded as complete because it identified that which must never be subordinated to efficiency, expansion or commercial success.<\/p><p data-start=\"1688\" data-end=\"2001\">As an aside, it is difficult for me to read this memorandum without a sense of personal recognition.
