elementor-element-45b27bd2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"45b27bd2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"360\" data-end=\"390\">The country moves quickly now.<\/p><p data-start=\"392\" data-end=\"635\">New machines arrive from abroad. New offices are formed. New expectations appear before the old ones have fully settled. Some Houses will prosper in such a time. Others will struggle to maintain the conditions that once allowed them to endure.<\/p><p data-start=\"637\" data-end=\"883\">A House founded upon a single craft may pass through many generations when the world moves slowly. When the pace increases, that same strength may become fragile. The work remains sound, yet the circumstances that supported it begin to disappear.<\/p><p data-start=\"885\" data-end=\"930\">This matter has occupied my thoughts of late.<\/p><p data-start=\"932\" data-end=\"1107\">Our <em data-start=\"936\" data-end=\"940\">ki<\/em> was established to serve the needs of the <em data-start=\"983\" data-end=\"987\">ie<\/em>. Yet its structure gathers labour, knowledge and resources in ways that a single household cannot easily sustain alone.<\/p><p data-start=\"1109\" data-end=\"1159\">It may be that this structure has another purpose.<\/p><p data-start=\"1161\" data-end=\"1338\">If carefully governed, the <em data-start=\"1188\" data-end=\"1192\">ki<\/em> might provide a place where Houses whose work still possesses value may continue, even when the conditions that once supported them have altered.<\/p><p data-start=\"1340\" data-end=\"1527\">The <strong data-start=\"1344\" data-end=\"1358\">Mori House<\/strong> offers one example. Its future might have been uncertain had events continued as they were. Within the <em data-start=\"1462\" data-end=\"1466\">ki<\/em>, however, its labour and experience may yet find proper use.<\/p><p data-start=\"1529\" data-end=\"1604\">Such arrangements should not be understood as the disappearance of a House.<\/p><p data-start=\"1606\" data-end=\"1634\">A House must remain a House.<\/p><p data-start=\"1636\" data-end=\"1690\">Its discipline, its memory and its name must continue.<\/p><p data-start=\"1692\" data-end=\"1773\">The <em data-start=\"1696\" data-end=\"1700\">ki<\/em> would merely provide the ground upon which those things may still stand.<\/p><p data-start=\"1775\" data-end=\"1868\">If this proves possible, there may be other Houses whose circumstances resemble that of Mori.<\/p><p data-start=\"1870\" data-end=\"1988\">It would not be difficult to imagine several such Houses working within the same structure while remaining themselves.<\/p><p data-start=\"1990\" data-end=\"2041\">Such a course would require patience and restraint.<\/p><p data-start=\"2043\" data-end=\"2133\">It would also require careful judgement in choosing which Houses may properly be received.<\/p><p data-start=\"2135\" data-end=\"2229\">Yet if it can be accomplished, the strength of the House need not diminish in the years ahead.<\/p><p data-start=\"2231\" data-end=\"2272\">It may, perhaps, become something thought. Yet the significance of the document lies not in the particular case, but in the broader conception Jir\u014d was beginning to formulate.<\/p><p data-start=\"1115\" data-end=\"1314\">He recognised that the rapid transformation of the Meiji economy would expose many small Houses\u2014particularly those founded upon a single craft or trade\u2014to conditions that could easily overwhelm them.<\/p><p data-start=\"1316\" data-end=\"1416\">His solution was not consolidation through absorption, but continuity through institutional support.<\/p><p data-start=\"1418\" data-end=\"1533\">Over the decades that followed, the <strong data-start=\"1454\" data-end=\"1468\">Iwamoto ki<\/strong> developed a distinctive practice that reflected this early idea.<\/p><p House, who continued to manage the work as they had before.<\/p><p data-start=\"2010\" data-end=\"2147\">In addition to the stipends associated with their labour, arrangements were frequently made to
